in der finalen welle, die am 12. april erscheint, fährt disney abschließend noch die größten highlights wie „der könig der löwen“, „bambi“ und „cinderella“ auf. seit juni 2017 hat disney in nun insgesamt fünf wellen seine animations-klassiker in neuer edition dauerhaft auf dvd und blu-ray in den handel gebracht. die elf letzten meisterwerke vervollständigen mit hochwertiger verpackung und einheitlichem disney classics design die reihe für disney fans und sammler! die disney classics kollektion ist im neuen look ein toller anblick in jeder sammlung und lässt die schönsten filmmomente aus 80 jahren zeichentrickgeschichte wieder aufleben.
mit dabei ist diesmal walt disneys persönlicher lieblingsfilm, „bambi“. die geschichte des jungen hirsches hat einen kuriosen erfolg vorzuweisen: 1948 gewann der film einen spezialpreis bei den golden globes für seine besonders gut gelungene hindi-synchronisation! für drei oscars war „bambi“ außerdem 1943 nominiert (bester song, beste musik, bester ton), ebenso wie „cinderella“ im jahr 1951 (bester song, beste musik, bester tonschnitt). disneys zweite prinzessin brachte dabei das erste mal filmmusik mit sich, die nicht nur zum film, sondern auch für eine eigenständige vermarktung gedacht war. das konzept ging auf und der film gewann sogar bei der berlinale 1951 einen goldenen bären als bester musikfilm.
1994 landete disney mit „der könig der löwen“ einen zeitlosen hit! als einer der erfolgreichsten zeichentrickfilme aller zeiten gewann simbas geschichte zahlreiche preise, unter anderem den oscar im jahr 1995 für die beste filmmusik und den besten song „can you feel the love tonight“. und auch über die jahre blieb disney seiner tradition treu, seine filme stets mit starken titelsongs auszustatten: „my funny friend and me“ aus „ein königreich für ein lama“ und „i can go the distance“ aus hercules waren beide ebenfalls für den oscar und den golden globe nominiert.
